making dreams come true one family at a time

Underlying the Medallion Housing Society’s vision, mission and goals is the idea that we all want similar things out of life: a place where we know we can build a future, raise a family and realize our greatest dreams. For many, that place is an affordable home in a good neighborhood, a place where we can build a strong foundation for our future and for the future of our children.

It seems that everywhere you look these days, there are announcements for home buyer workshops aimed at condo buyers, foreign buyers, investment buyers—Buyers for every niche of the real estate market.  In the meantime, the price of real estate in Greater Vancouver has skyrocketed and residents here face some of Canada’s highest home prices.

For low- and moderate-income earners who want to buy a home but lack the down payment, the knowledge about where affordable homes are located and the skills to plan for mortgage payments, taxes and repairs, homeownership must seem like an impossible dream.

The Medallion Housing Society intends to change that.

When we founded the Medallion Housing Society in 2002, we wanted to send a clear message to lower- and moderate-income earners: if you work hard, you can get ahead, you can take care of your family and you can build the future you want.

That’s exactly what we want to help you to do and that’s exactly what we’re doing.

We have held a number of highly successful homeownership seminars aimed at educating lower- and moderate income homebuyers on potential homeownership benefits, to give them the skills necessary to participate fully and confidently during the purchasing process of their future homes, and help them determine whether or not homeownership is the right solution for their needs.

Although seminar attendance and lengthy waiting lists confirms there is keen interest in homeownership among this audience, circumstance and disability will prevent the majority of these individuals from ever saving up from a down payment on their dream.   Providing down payment assistance to lower- and moderate-income earners who would otherwise be unable to secure a mortgage will fully illustrate how Medallion’s services can directly and deeply affect the quality of life of those receiving them.

British Columbia’s strength comes from its diversity.  Our province was built community by community.  Vancouver’s strength is built on the strength of its communities and their diversity.  Diversity in our communities depends on the people who live there and homeownership for lower- and moderate-income earners is an integral part of that.
